Dr Stephen Kimani
Senior Land and Water Management Expert
Stephen Kimani is a senior land and water management expert with over 40 years experience of
working in agricultural research, natural resource management and climate-smart agricultural
practices across Eastern and Southern Africa. He has got a Doctoral Degree in Ecophysiology. He has
an extensive Professional career working to Enhance soil fertility, sustainable land use and an
integrated soil fertility management smallholder farming system.
He used to be the chief research scientist with the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research
Organisation (KALRO). He coordinated the programme on Natural Resources and Environment
Sustainability under the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP). The project is being
implemented across 24 counties. Stephen served as the Programme Manager for Kilimo Trust on
regional food security, fertilizer and input systems, value-chain development and access to markets
in East Africa.
Stephen has extensive experience in the areas of soil fertility and plant nutrition, climate-smart land
and water use management, participatory research and scaling, and policy-relevant advisory work.
Over the years, he has worked with a number of CGIAR institutions, regional and national research
organizations, governments and development partners and has also produced a number of scientific
publications and policy briefs. He provides support for evidence-based programme design, research,
and the provision of advisory services on sustainable agricultural and natural resource governance at
Kaizen Top Mark.
